What is Heat?

Heat is energy transferred between a system and its surroundings as a result of
a temperature difference. Energy that passes from a warmer body (with a higher
temperature) to a colder body (with a lower temperature) is transferred as heat.
At the molecular level, molecules of the warmer body, through collisions, lose
kinetic energy to those of the colder body. Thermal energy is transferred—“heat
flows”—until the average molecular kinetic energies of the two bodies become
the same, until the temperatures become equal. Heat, like work, describes
energy in transit between a system and its surroundings.

Not only can heat transfer cause a change in temperature but, in some
instances, it can also change a state of matter. For example, when a solid is heated,
the molecules, atoms, or ions of the solid move with greater vigor and eventually
break free from their neighbors by overcoming the attractive forces between
them. Energy is required to overcome these attractive forces. During the process
of melting, the temperature remains constant as a thermal energy transfer (heat)
is used to overcome the forces holding the solid together. Aprocess occurring at a
constant temperature is said to be isothermal. Once a solid has melted completely,
any further heat flow will raise the temperature of the resulting liquid.
Although we commonly use expressions like “heat is lost,” “heat is gained,”
“heat flows,” and “the system loses heat to the surroundings,” you should not
take these statements to mean that a system contains heat. It does not. The
energy content of a system, as we shall see in Section 7-5, is a quantity called
the internal energy. Heat is simply a form in which a quantity of energy may be
transferred across a boundary between a system and its surroundings.
It is reasonable to expect that the quantity of heat, q, required to change the
temperature of a substance depends on
• how much the temperature is to be changed
• the quantity of substance
• the nature of the substance (type of atoms or molecules)

how to make a end mill cutter(plane) by a vertical milling machine.



Name of the job: Making a boring cutter on vertical milling cutter

What is boring cutter: Boring cutter is a bar , we can make holes on any ferrous or non-ferrous  metal by it’s sharp edges. There have 2 or more cutting blades at last end of boring bar.Cutting blades are attached by screw bolt on catted shape on base metal bar.


Include instruments:
1.    Slide caliper
2.    Steel rule
3.    A solid cylindrical iron bar with essential diameter.
4.    Emery paper.
5.    Adjustable rang
A.  Steps of manufacturing:  To make a boring bar , steps of working given below-
A.  At first we have to choice a tool steel bar for desire Dia. Here have to remind that the cylindrical bar must be larger Dia then biggest Dia of boring bar body.

B.   Now fixed length of boring cutter with extra metal for facing . sheer these from full length bar.
C.  Sat this bar on lathe chalk for plane turning operation.

D.  Now sat the cutting tool in tool post and make plane turning operation on boring bar . which shown as (1) , in pic.

E.   Now take a tapper turning on fixed measure on boring bar . the catted part shown  as number (2).

F.   After finished second step of turning , sat tool post for tapper operation in noted angle( 15- 25 degree).

G.  Make tapper turning on bar at part of (3) , which also shown on drawing.

H.  At last make a plain turning on gripper end of boring bar. This part shown as (4) in drawing.




I.      Now attach this job on a vertical milling machine to make a complete gripper.
J.      And do this operation carefully so that gripper is get a shape in fixed size .
K.  After that, start to cut cutting blade slot , where cutting blades are attach by screw / some tool are not designed for attach blades , there cutting head attached by brass welding.
L.    After final finishing on cylindrical grinding machine , and emeri   paper , then send this job to inspection section of industry.
M.And when need to use this tool body , then attach cutting blades by welding or screw by specification of tool.
